Whereas, |
Recess is an established school-based activity; and |
Whereas, |
Recess should be considered a part of school health and wellness; and |
Whereas, |
16 % of the nation’s children are overweight and a greater number are developing cardiovascular risk factors and type 2 diabetes. Health professionals and parents are gravely concerned with this condition; and |
Whereas, |
During recess children gain skills in conflict resolution by playing with their peers, learning how to share and collaborating around games; and |
Whereas, |
Recess promotes lifelong health and prepares children for physically active lifestyles; and |
Whereas, |
Recess shall not be withdrawn as punishment for failure to do homework; and |
Resolved, |
That the New Jersey PTA and Local PTAs support New Jersey Senate Bill S1594, which provides a daily recess period for students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade; and be it further |
Resolved, |
That the New Jersey PTA, it's PTAs ensure that recess is always a part of a student’s educational experience. |
