Safety Plan for Students on Overnight Trips

WHEREAS    Off-campus school trips are an integral part of the school experience; and

WHEREAS    Off-campus trips provide invaluable learning experiences outside the classroom and

WHEREAS    there is no federal plan for safety for off-premises trips; THEREFORE be it

RESOLVED that NJPTA, its County Councils and local PTAs shall encourage the Commissioner of Education, the Department of Education, and their Boards of Education to adopt a written safety plan for students on overnight trips.

RESOLVED that NJPTA be represented on the committee formed to develop this plan.

Rationale: Phylicia’s Law is a bill (HR 729) proposed in the US Congress by NJ Congressman Rothman, District 9, in response to a tragic accident. NJPTA will review this law if and when passed.
