Childproof Handguns

Whereas, A child is killed with a gun every two hours, and every two days a classroom of children are lost to firearm violence; and

Whereas, A majority of the students in grades 6-12 indicated that they could get a gun within 24 hours; and

Whereas, A majority of teenage murder victims were killed with handguns and firearms were involved in teen suicides; and 

Whereas, Handguns are a consumer product that is not regulated by consumer product commission; and 

Whereas, School tragedies in recent years gave demonstrated that firearms and handguns are often the choice for solving problems, therefore be it

Resolved, that the New Jersey PTA promotes programs for students, parents, and teachers on conflict resolution through peaceful methods; and be it further

Resolved, That all constituents of the New Jersey PTA support programs and legislation that will provide for childproof handguns.
